Cher retaliated against the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by saying, “If they gave me a million dollars, I wouldn’t be in it now.”
When the 77-year-old was asked about her incredible accomplishment of having chart-topping hits over seven decades, she was appearing on The Kelly Clarkson Show.
According to the Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Song charts, Cher’s most recent single, “DJ Play a Christmas Song,” peaked, meaning that she has had No. 1 hits in every decade from the 1960s to the 2020s.
Since 1991, Cher has been eligible for induction into the Cleveland-based Hall of Fame, but she has continuously been passed over.
She remarked, “You know what, if they gave me a million dollars, I wouldn’t be in it now.” “I’m not joking around. I was about to add another thing. I was about to give you the —! I’m not going to have second thoughts. They are free to do as they please.
She went on: “May I just add one more thing, please? I used “Believe” to forever alter music.
Cher introduced the groundbreaking technique of autotune in her chart-topping 1999 single, which has since spread throughout pop music. It became the best-selling single by a female artist in the UK’s history, selling over 11 million copies globally.
In a segment of Amelia Dimoldenberg’s Chicken Shop Date, Cher was asked if she fell in love “very quickly” with her 37-year-old partner. The vocalist responded, “No, not at all.”
Cher then reminisced about how some texting initially sparked her romance with Edwards, whom she has been dating since 2022.
She said, “I left to go to Switzerland, and he texts me.” “‘Where are you going?’ he asked. I replied, “I’m heading to Switzerland.” I’m a little worn out. “Well get some rest baby, with three Ys,” he wrote after that. “He doesn’t know me well enough to put three Ys on baby,” I exclaimed. I was feeling a little irate.
Cher did, however, mention that he “then just started texting” during her trip to Switzerland, but they continued to communicate. In light of the relationship advice she had previously given her friends, she also emphasized how ironic it was that she fell in love with her boyfriend.
“And I advised my friends to never fall in love via text—we’re too old to fall in love with a younger man,” she recalled. “That theory is busted.”
