Bhavish Aggarwal, a co-founder of Ola, launched his artificial intelligence (AI) company Krutrim Si Designs, which has entered the fiercely competitive AI model race with the release of Krutrim, its first family of multilingual AI models.

Aggarwal demonstrated a Krutrim-powered AI chatbot during the launch event, which works similarly to Google’s Bard and OpenAI’s ChatGPT. It can produce text in ten Indian languages and understand 22 different languages. The Krutrim team has locations in the Bay Area (US) and India.
In April 2023, Krutrim Si Designs was introduced. Aggarwal established it in collaboration with Krishnamurthy Venugopala Tenneti, a board member of ANI Technologies Ltd., the company that owns Ola Cabs and Ola Electric.
Aggarwal had previously declared that Krutrim will be an AI startup built in India with its own data resources, catering to Indian clients.
This launch follows the introduction of OpenHathi, the first large-scale Hindi language model, by Indian startup Sarvam. The startup recently disclosed that it has raised $41 million from well-known investors, including Khosla Ventures, Peak XV Partners, and Lightspeed Ventures. Earlier this month, tech behemoth Google also unveiled Gemini, its newest and most sophisticated AI model.
