Within a week, the CAA would be put into effect throughout all of India, according to Shantanu Thakur, not just in West Bengal.
Political News Updates : According to union minister Shantanu Thakur, the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, or CAA, would be put into effect nationwide within the next seven days. Shantanu Thakur, the BJP’s Bangaon Lok Sabha MP, addressed a public rally in South 24 Parganas, West Bengal, on Sunday. He stated, “The CAA will be implemented across the country within the next seven days, and the Ram mandir (temple) in Ayodhya has been inaugurated.” I promise you this. Within a week, the CAA would be enacted in all of India’s states, not only West Bengal.
The contentious Citizenship by Assent (CAA) bill, introduced by the Narendra Modi government, will confer Indian status to persecuted non-Muslim migrants from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan who arrived in India before December 31, 2014, including Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, and Christians.
In a news channel interview, Thakur stated that the controversial legislation would be swiftly put into effect in seven days.
“The CAA will soon be put into effect. It is going to be put into effect in seven days. “I promise you this,” stated Thakur, who is a prominent figure in the Matua community.
He has been asserting that the country would implement the CAA prior to this year’s Lok Sabha elections.
In response to Thakur’s remarks, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attacked the BJP, claiming that with the Lok Sabha elections quickly approaching, the party has once again begun to shout “CAA CAA” in order to win votes.
“We’ve engaged in combat with the NRC. Indian citizens make up the Rajbanshis. “For the purpose of votes, they have once more started yelling CAA, CAA,” Banerjee declared during a public distribution event in Cooch Behar, West Bengal.
Massive demonstrations broke out in several regions of the nation when the CAA was approved by Parliament in December 2019 and then granted presidential approval.
The CAA is the law of the land, so no one can block its implementation, according to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who also charged Banerjee with deceiving the public on the matter on December 27 of last year.
Speaking at a party conference in Kolkata, Shah affirmed the BJP’s commitment to putting the CAA into effect. Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress has been against the CAA.
A key election platform for the BJP in the most recent West Bengal Assembly and Lok Sabha elections was the pledge to carry out the divisive CAA legislation. Leaders of the BJP believe it to be a reasonable aspect that contributed to the BJP’s ascent in the state.
The manual of parliamentary processes states that any legislation’s rules must be drafted within six months following the president’s assent, or else the Committees on Subordinate Legislation in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha must be consulted for an extension. The home ministry has been asking the parliamentary committees to extend its deadlines for drafting regulations on a regular basis since 2020.
After the law was passed by Parliament, over a hundred individuals died as a result of police action or protests.
Over the past 24 months, the Citizenship Act of 1955 has empowered over 30 district magistrates and home secretaries across nine states to bestow Indian citizenship on Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis, and Christians originating from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan.
In accordance with the Ministry of Home Affairs’ annual report for 2021–22, 1,414 foreign nationals from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan who belonged to these non-Muslim minority communities were granted Indian citizenship through registration or naturalization in accordance with the Citizenship Act, 1955, between April 1, 2021, and December 31, 2021.
Until yet, no district authorities in West Bengal and Assam, where the matter is highly sensitive politically, have been granted the authority.
