The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) released the alert, which indicates that there may be a widespread risk affecting anything from entry-level Samsung Galaxy M series phones to the most expensive Galaxy S23 Ultra.
Users of Samsung devices are advised by the Government of India to be aware of a potentially “critical” security flaw that could enable hackers to target their devices and take advantage of their data. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has issued a warning, indicating that there may be a widespread risk that affects anything from entry-level Samsung Galaxy M series phones to the most expensive Galaxy S23 Ultra. Samsung tablets might also be vulnerable.
“CERT-In stated in a note that multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in Samsung products that could enable an attacker to circumvent security measures put in place, access confidential data, and execute arbitrary code on the targeted system.”
The advisory alerts Samsung devices running Android versions 11, 12, 13, and the most recent Android 14 to “multiple” vulnerabilities. If these flaws are taken advantage of, a hacker may be able to get past security measures, obtain private information, and possibly even run arbitrary code to take total control of the system they are targeting.
As a precautionary measure, all Samsung users are urged to update their devices with the most recent security patches (for both the system and installed apps and games). They should also exercise extra caution when using their devices until Samsung releases the complete fix, which is scheduled for an update this month. As part of the monthly Security Maintenance Release (SMR) process, Samsung Mobile is releasing maintenance releases for its flagship models.
