In an official statement, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation said today (February 8) that it would pay the family of a 53-year-old man who lost his life after part of the Gokulpuri Metro Station on the Pink Line in northeast Delhi collapsed.
It said that the DMRC had provided Rs 5 lakh for the severely injured and Rs 1 lakh for those who had only slight wounds. Due to the fall, the transporters also suspended two of their officials.
“Two DMRC officials, a manager and a junior engineer from the civil department, have been immediately suspended,” the statement continued.
Ex-gratia payments of Rs 50,000 for mild injuries, Rs 2.5 lakh for severe injuries, and Rs 15 lakh to the deceased’s next of kin were first made public by the transporter. According to the statement, the DMRC will be looking into what happened before this incident and taking the appropriate corrective action to make sure that something similar doesn’t happen again.

“Taking immediate cognisance of the unfortunate incident at Gokulpuri, DMRC’s managing director Vikas Kumar has issued instructions to all the concerned departments in DMRC to conduct vigorous safety checks across the Delhi metro network,” Dayal stated.
According to him, the debris on the road was removed within an hour of the occurrence to guarantee smooth traffic flow. In addition to representatives from all relevant agencies, the executive director of O&M is present at the location to conduct a firsthand assessment of the circumstances, he stated.
The DMRC representatives are present at the hospital making sure the injured receive every support available. Dayal stated that all information about the incident has been given to the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS).
Train services over the short distance from Maujpur to Shiv Vihar are suspended as a precaution are being run on a single line to fix the Gokulpuri station’s fallen section, which has also caused a temporary closure. Dayal noted that the remaining Pink Line train services are operating as usual.
