The Chief Minister of Delhi has requested his release from prison to participate in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
Political News Updates :Today, the Supreme Court ordered the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to surrender on June 2, the day after the expected conclusion of polling for the seven-phased Lok Sabha elections, and granted interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for a period of 21 days. Later that evening, the Chief Minister of Delhi emerged from the jail.
Arvind Kejriwal was granted interim release by the Supreme Court, but the arrest of the AAP president by the Enforcement Directorate was delayed. The central investigation agency had filed an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) in August 2022, according to a bench made up of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta, but Mr. Kejriwal was taken into custody in March.
“He was there for almost 1.5 years… It is possible that the arrest was made beforehand or later. Justice Khanna stated that it shouldn’t matter if something happens for 21 days or not.
In order to campaign for the current Lok Sabha elections, Mr. Kejriwal had requested his release from prison.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) detained Mr. Kejriwal on March 21 in connection with a money laundering investigation pertaining to the purported liquor insurance fraud. He is presently being held in judicial custody at the Tihar prison.
