The NHAI has declared that as of January 31, 2024, FASTags with unfinished KYC will no longer be active
By January 31, 2024, the state-owned National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) plans to deactivate the FASTags on a certain number of vehicles. If the KYC for the FASTags is incomplete, they will be disabled.
In an effort to further simplify and authenticate the recently implemented toll collection system throughout India, NHAI has made it necessary for you to complete your FASTag KYC by January 31 of this year.
The ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative, launched by NHAI, aims to discourage the use of a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or the linking of multiple FASTags to a single vehicle. This will improve the efficiency of the electronic toll collection system and facilitate seamless movement at toll plazas, according to an official statement.
In addition, the NHAI stated in their statement that in order to prevent service interruptions, all FASTag users need to finish their Know Your Customer (KYC) procedure in accordance with RBI regulations.
It further stated that holders of FASTags must adhere to the principle of “One Vehicle, One FASTag” and cancel all previously issued FASTags via their individual banks. “Only the latest FASTag account shall remain active as previous tags will be deactivated/blacklisted after 31st January 2024,” says the press release.
If users of FASTag are confused about anything, they can contact the closest toll plazas or the toll-free customer service number of their individual issuer banks.
RBI guidelines on FASTag usage
The NHAI stated in its statement that they implemented this new KYC regulation in response to data they received indicating that numerous FASTags were issued for a single car, or that a single FASTag was being used for multiple vehicles, in violation of RBI rules.
In addition, there are instances when FASTags are purposefully left off of a vehicle’s windscreen, which causes needless delays at toll booths and annoyance to other drivers on national highways.
