Gaganyaan mission : The four astronauts chosen for the Gaganyaan mission, which is scheduled to be the nation’s first manned spaceflight, were presented by the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) on Tuesday.
At the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Prime Minister Narendra Modi awarded the four astronauts their wings. The four astronauts, who are graduates of the National Defense Academy (NDA), received extensive training in Russia and India in order to get ready for their first space mission.
” As he bestowed the astronauts with their wings, Prime Minister Modi declared, “India is proud of Group Captain Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair, Group Captain Ajit Krishnan, Group Captain Angad Pratap, and Wing Commander Shubhanshu Shukla.”
Group Captain Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair, a renowned fighter pilot with a stellar career in the Indian Air Force (IAF), is leading this historic endeavor.
Group Captain Nair was born in Thiruvazhiyad, Kerala, on August 26, 1976. He started his aviation career at the National Defence Academy (NDA). Since being commissioned on December 19, 1998, in the Indian Air Force’s fighter stream, he has flown over 3,000 hours in a variety of aircraft, including the powerful Su-30 MKI, MiG-21, and MiG-29, among others.
His experience as a test pilot and Category A flying instructor highlights how important it was for him to lead a top-tier Su-30 squadron.
Group Captains Ajit Krishnan, Angad Pratap, and Wing Commander Shubhanshu Shukla are accompanying him on this historic expedition, each contributing their distinct set of abilities and experiences.
Group Captain Krishnan has logged almost 2,900 hours of flight time and is the recipient of the President’s Gold Medal and the Sword of Honour. Likewise, Wing Commander Shukla, a Fighter Combat Leader and Test Pilot, and Group Captain Pratap, who has logged almost 2,000 hours in the air, complete this outstanding group of astronauts.
These astronauts were chosen after undergoing extensive training and assessment, demonstrating their extraordinary skills and commitment. Their readiness for the Gaganyaan mission was further cemented by their extensive training at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Russia.
India hopes to become the fourth country in the world to accomplish human spaceflight capabilities with Gaganyaan.
Ensuring the safe return of the three crew members is the primary concern as the Gaganyaan mission prepares to orbit them at a height of 400 km for three days.
