U-19 World Cup Updates : India defeated South Africa by two wickets in the opening semi-final of the U-19 World Cup 2024 at Willowmoore Park in Benoni on Tuesday, February 6, to advance to their fifth consecutive Under-19 World Cup final. After the team in blue water was reduced to 36/4 in the first 12 overs and had to chase 245 to win, Sachin Dhas launched the counterattack, hitting 96 off just 95 balls and missing out on his second century of the competition.
Captain Uday Saharam, who also failed to get his second century in the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2024, provided Dhas with excellent support. When the game was tied at one run, he was run out for eighty-one. The pair put up the best fifth-wicket stand in U-19 World Cup cricket history with 71 runs for the fifth wicket.
After Dhas was removed by Kwena Maphaka, the hosts didn’t give up easily either. They applied pressure to India, forcing them to concede three more wickets, two of which were run out. However, in the end, it was insufficient because they ultimately failed. Together with Maphaka, Tristan Luus claimed three wickets; no other Proteas player was able to secure a wicket.
