Announcing LK Advani’s nomination for the Bharat Ratna award earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi described it as a “emotional moment” for him.

Politics Updates : Veteran BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani thanked everyone as he accepted today’s Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor. “It is not only an honour for me as a person, but also for the ideals and principles that I strove to serve throughout my life to the best of my ability,” he stated in the letter.

The accolade was revealed earlier in the day, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi described it as a “emotional moment” for Mr. Advani.

The 96-year-old leader recalled how, at the age of 14, he joined the RSS, the BJP’s ideological parent organization. “Since I became a volunteer for the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh at the age of 14, I have only ever looked for reward in devoted and unselfish work of my dear nation in whatever duty life has given me,” he declared.

In his letter of gratitude, LK Advani also mentioned two veterans: Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya and Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He said, “Today, I am thankful for remembering two people I had the privilege of working closely with: Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya and Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee.”

“My heartfelt gratitude to millions of my party workers, swayamsevaks and others with whom I had the privilege of working throughout my journey in public life,” he said, further thanking his wife Kamla and his party workers. I also want to convey my sincere condolences to my family, particularly to my beloved late wife Kamla. In my life, they have been the most reliable source of support and energy.”

Mr. Advani further expressed gratitude to PM Modi and President Droupadi Murmu for the honor.

The government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given out seven Bharat Ratnas since taking office in 2014: Madan Mohan Malviya, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Pranab Mukherjee, Bhupen Hazarika, and Nanaji Deshmukh. This is the seventh time this has happened.

On November 8, 1927, LK Advani was born in Karachi, which is now in Pakistan. Since the BJP’s founding in 1980, he has been its president for the longest period of time. Over the course of his nearly three-decade legislative career, Mr. Advani held the positions of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s administration (1999–2004).
