The 21.8-kilometer, six-lane sea bridge links Nhava Sheva in Uran taluka, Raigad district, with Sewri in Mumbai.

The longest bridge in the nation, the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) in Maharashtra, was visited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday.

He declared that the sea bridge is a “glimpse of what a developed India is going to look like” when he inaugurated it earlier in the day.

“Everyone will have access to facilities, affluence, speed, and advancement in a developed India. Distances will be shorter and there would be connectivity throughout all of developed India. Everything, whether it be life or a means of subsistence, will continue uninterruptedly. Speaking at a public gathering, Prime Minister Modi stated, “This is the message of Atal Setu.”

In honor of the late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, MTHL is now known as Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewari-Nhava Sheva Atal Setu.

The 21.8-kilometer, six-lane sea bridge links Nhava Sheva in Uran taluka, Raigad district, with Sewri in Mumbai. Of the entire length, 5.5 km are on land and 16.5 km are above sea level.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is responsible for building the ₹18,000 crore Mumbai Trans Harbour link. On Saturday, the bridge will be accessible to vehicles.

The two hours it used to take to go from Mumbai to Navi Mumbai have been reduced to just 20 minutes thanks to the sea bridge.

It is anticipated that 70,000 cars would cross the sea bridge each day. The MMRDA’s analysis included traffic forecasts that indicate approximately 1.33 lakh cars are anticipated to use the Sewri-Shivaji by 2032.

PM Modi placed the bridge’s foundation stone in December 2016.

PM Modi visited Maharashtra for the day. In addition to MTHL, he also launched the sixth line of the Khar-Goregaon suburban train, virtually opened the Bharat Ratnam mega common facility for the gem and jewellery industry, and laid the foundation stone for the underground road tunnel connecting Orange Gate with Marine Drive at Seepz SEZ.

Additionally, he dedicated phase 1 of the Surya dam, the first line of the Navi Mumbai metro line, and the Digha Gaon railway station in Navi Mumbai. He also launched Namo Mahila Sakshamikaran Abhiyaan of state government.
