In the Jamtara area of Jharkhand, a train ran over and killed at least two people on Wednesday night. Jamtara sub-division police officer (SDPO) M Rahman told news agency PTI that the accident happened close to the Kaljharia region in the Jamtara district when some passengers got off the train from the wrong side. “A local train coming on another line hit them,” he stated. “So far, the bodies of two people have been found. The toll may go up as the search is ongoing,” he stated.

According to early accounts, the victims were allegedly Anga Express passengers who were traveling parallel to the Memu passenger train when it halted owing to a fire alarm.
According to the accounts, passengers got off the train and ran over the Memu train.

Eastern Railway refuted this in a statement, stating that the accident happened at least two kilometers from the Anga Express stop.
Additionally, the Railway refuted reports that the Anga Express caught fire. To look into the accident further, a Junior Administrative Grade (JAG) committee consisting of three members has been constituted.
The Jamtara Deputy Commissioner has been instructed by Jharkhand Health Minister Banna Gupta to carry out the relief and rescue operations. Additionally, he has given Jamtara, the Civil Surgeon, instructions on how to care the injured.
