Given the thoughtful way in which the stockings have been hung by the chimney, it seems inevitable that St. Nicholas will soon arrive with a sleigh full of presents.

This Christmas, Santa will be tracked by the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), a joint U.S.-Canadian entity that has been in charge of monitoring everything flying into and out of the two nations for more than 60 years. Despite its accidental start in 1955, the tradition has endured as a cherished mission ever since.On Christmas Eve, at about 4 a.m. ET, NORAD’s radars notify them that Santa has taken to the air, at which point they begin following him. Santa’s global travels can be monitored on the NORAD website.

Additionally, starting on Christmas Eve and running for 23 hours, NORAD provides a phone line. Lt. Sean Carter, the Manager of the NORAD Tracks Santa Program, states that the call center handled more than 53,000 calls last year.

Around five in the morning ET, Google will start tracking Santa Claus as well.

The Pentagon states that Santa is anticipated to travel safely and securely this Christmas, in contrast to the balloon that entered American airspace earlier this year.

Last Monday, Maj. Gen. Patrick Ryder, the press secretary for the Pentagon, stated, “I’m sure he’ll be on time and in place for Christmas.”When he gets there, he might not find much snow, though. El Niño this winter may be among the greatest in 70 years, and it is expected to bring warmer-than-normal temperatures and more precipitation to many portions of the United States. This combination may result in rain this Christmas instead of snow.
