Here’s a list of our top four local pizza alternatives, which Michael Russell, the culinary critic for The Oregonian, refers to as Portland’s “pizza Mount Rushmore.”

Ken’s Artisan Pizza

Ken’s Artisan Pizza (304 S.E. 28th Ave.) is an unquestionable Portland institution that makes some excellent pies, even though the list that named it the second-best pizza in the world may not be entirely reliable.

Since the release of that list of the greatest in the world, Italy’s Top 50 Pizza has named Ken’s the third-best pizza in the US—a very respectable distinction. Later, Ken’s was ranked No. 19 in the world by that same body.

If you go: Ken’s specializes on wood-fired pies influenced by Neapolitan cuisine, made with basic seasonal ingredients and incredibly crispy crusts. While pineapple isn’t likely to be seen, ranch is available on the side.

Given the fresh and distinctive local ingredients that top the majority of the pies, food reviewer Michael Russell referred to Lovely’s pizza as “Ken’s Artisan Pizza after a hike through the Oregon forest.” Russell selected the pizzeria as one of the top Portland eateries of 2016.

Apizza Scholls

This well-known location in Portland recently marked its 20th anniversary in January. The line waiting for tables at Apizza Scholls (4741 S.E.
