Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi is in Pakistan for a three-day visit to discuss religious, cultural, diplomatic, investment, and security issues in an effort to repair the country’s troubled relations. The visit takes place after both countries attacked each other’s purported terrorist hideouts.
Pakistan and Iran have now agreed to cooperate in the fight against terrorism. The two nations inked at least eight treaties encouraging collaboration in different fields. The two presidents also spoke about strategies to improve trade and communication between their nations.
During the high-level bilateral meetings, Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister of Pakistan, brought up the topic of Kashmir. But when it came to reacting to the tensions in the area, Raisi did not show the same zeal. Instead, he intensified the discussion of the Israel-Gaza conflict and Iran’s ongoing support for Palestinians who are resisting injustice.
Iran and Pakistan have both accused one another of harboring and assisting armed and extremist organizations. Iran conducted airstrikes on the alleged terrorist hideouts in the province of Balochistan earlier in January.
Pakistan used deadly drones and rockets to target the Iranian province of Siestan-Balochistan in retaliation for this attack. Both countries have refrained from escalating their hostilities since the attacks.
