Umar Ansari, the son of gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, stated that his father was given poison in the meal and that the family would file a lawsuit after his father passed away on Thursday from cardiac arrest at a Banda, Uttar Pradesh, hospital.
News agency PTI reported that Mukhtar Ansari passed away at the hospital after suffering a heart arrest. He was taken to the Rani Durgavati Medical College in Banda from the district jail in “an unconscious state,” according to the college’s principal Suneel Kaushal.
“I received no information from the administration. It was through the media that I learned about it. But now everyone in the country is aware of everything… I went to see him two days ago, but I was turned away. Regarding the accusation of administering delayed poison, we have stated previously and will continue to do so today. He was poisoned during supper on March 19. We have complete faith in the judiciary, and we will proceed there,” Umar Ansari was cited by news agency ANI as saying.
Mukhtar Ansari’s body was taken to Banda Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
“Tomorrow, March 29, is the post-mortem; following that, they will give the body to us.” After that, we’ll proceed with the further step (cremation)… My father claimed to have received a slow-acting poison. A team of about five doctors has been assembled (to perform the post-mortem),” Umar Ansari continued.
Afzal Ansari, the MP for Ghazipur and brother of Ansari, said on Tuesday that he was experiencing “slow poisoning” while incarcerated; the authorities refuted this claim.
Politicians’ responses to the death of Mukhtar Ansari
Concurrently, a number of prominent politicians expressed their sympathies. Asaduddin Owaisi, head of AIMIM, extended his condolences and sympathy for Mukhtar Ansari’s family.
“I want Allah to pardon Mukhtar Ansari and grant his family and loved ones patience. The beloved son and brother of the people of Ghazipur passed away. Mukhtar Saheb had accused the authorities of poisoning him, a charge that was taken very seriously. The administration gave his treatment little consideration in spite of this. Regrettable and condemnable,” Asaduddin Owaisi wrote on X, the former Twitter platform.
Leader of the Samajwadi Party Ameeque Jamei called for a comprehensive probe into Mukhtar Ansari’s demise.
“We support Mukhtar Ansari’s family… He recently declared that he may be killed at any time. Why wasn’t he provided with a suitable medical facility?We will insist on a comprehensive inquiry of the occurrence,” Ameeque Jamei declared.
Congressman Surendra Rajput questioned the gangster-turned-politician’s death as well.
“Today’s jail death of Mukhtar Ansari poses a serious dilemma for the BJP-led UP Government…To ensure that everyone is aware of what is happening, this needs to be thoroughly explored.” stated Surendra Rajput.
