Nafe Singh Rathee, the chief of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) Haryana unit, was with his nephew Rajesh when he was shot and killed on Sunday in the Jhajjar district of the state by unidentified gunmen. Rathee, a two-time former MLA, was in an SUV at the time of the incident. When Rathee was shot, Rajesh was allegedly in the front seat of the vehicle and the murderer was in the back seat. Media accounts state that Rathee’s killers informed his nephew that they were “sparing his life” so he could go back home and tell everyone about what had happened.
According to India Today, a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against four people: former MLA Naresh Kaushik, Ramesh Rathee, Sathish Rathee, and Rahul. However, the Haryana police do not yet have any solid leads.
According to reports, on Monday, the police are going over CCTV footage from surrounding regions in an effort to identify the killers and the license plates of their cars. So far, reports state that the film shows the four suspects driving the automobile in a vicinity close to the scene of the crime.
On Monday, prominent INLD leader Abhay Chautala charged that the state government had failed to provide Rathee security even though it was aware of the danger to his life. In addition, he called for the resignations of Anil Vij, the home minister, and Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
Chautala informed the media, “The two-time MLA, who is our state unit chief, was not provided with security,” and demanded a CBI investigation into the incident. Senior police officials and the state home minister had received written complaints claiming he was being threatened and needed protection.Rathee had previously told me that he had received a threat to his life from certain police officers six months prior.
