“If Arvind Kejriwal considers this (interim bail) as a clean chit, then his understanding of the law is weak,” Amit Shah, the home minister, stated

Lok Sabha Election 2024 : On Saturday, Home Minister Amit Shah retaliated against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over the AAP chief’s remark that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is laying the foundation for Mr. Shah to become prime minister in the future.
In his first press conference following his release from prison, Mr. Kejriwal disparaged Prime Minister Modi, referring to the BJP’s campaign for a “one nation, one election” system, by calling for “one nation, one leader.”

“Someone inquires about the prime minister’s face from the INDIA bloc. What will the BJP’s PM be, may I ask? The 75th birthday of Modi ji is September 17, 2020. In 2014, he instituted the provision that retirees at 75 years of age. LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, and Sumitra Mahajan were retiring,” Mr. Kejriwal stated.

“Next year, he’ll retire. In order to install Amit Shah as prime minister, he is looking for votes. Will Amit Shah live up to Modi ji’s promise?” Three of the seven phases of the Lok Sabha election campaign have already been finished, according to the AAP president, who was granted temporary bail till June 1.

The Home Minister responded to Mr. Kejriwal by telling reporters that the Chief Minister of Delhi was gravely incorrect to believe that Prime Minister Modi will retire at the age of 75.
“I want to make it clear to Arvind Kejriwal, his associates, and the INDIA bloc that the BJP’s constitution makes no mention of the 75-year-old restriction regulation. PM Modi will only serve out his term as prime minister; he will not step down from office. The BJP is not confused,” Mr. Shah declared.

The Delhi Chief Minister is still facing charges related to the liquor policy, in which former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was also imprisoned. The Home Minister questioned Mr. Kejriwal’s “misplaced confidence” and pointed out that the interim bail is only a temporary remedy.
“In order to continue his campaigning, Arvind Kejriwal has been granted temporary release. In front of the Supreme Court, he prayed that his arrest was incorrect, but the court rejected his request. Mr. Shah stated that the temporary release was only granted until June 1 and that he must turn himself in to the agencies on June 2.

“If Arvind Kejriwal considers this as a clean chit, then his understanding of the law is weak,” he stated.

Mr. Kejriwal is not permitted to enter the Delhi secretariat, sign official documents, or go to his office as part of the interim bail. Before he signs any urgent paperwork, he must obtain approval from the Lieutenant Governor.
The Lok Sabha elections, the Supreme Court stated, have spurred the contemplation of interim bail because, at this point, the court is unable to reach a decision on his appeal contesting his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate or to wrap up the debate.
