The talented batsman shared the happy news on his X handle on Thursday, January 17, after missing the Indian team’s tour of South Africa due to a groin injury. He had the procedure in Germany with the goal of playing for the Mumbai Indians (MI) team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) again in 2024.
On Thursday, Sky posted on his X handle, “I am happy to tell you all that I will be back very soon. I want to thank everyone for their concerns and well wishes for my health.”
The T20 World Cup and the Indian Premier League will occupy the batter’s schedule for the next three months, thus Surya’s successful surgery is a major relief for MI and India supporters. The 33-year-old was named the ICC’s T20I Player of the Year for 2022 after contributing well to both MI and Team India in the shorter format. With 2,141 runs in 60 Twenty20 Internationals, he is among the country’s top scorers in the format. In the shortened version, Surya scores four hundreds as well; the only player who scores more tons than him is Rohit Sharma.
