Rejecting the BJP’s offer of a ticket, Nirmala Sitharaman stated that she “doesn’t have the kind of money” to run in the Lok Sabha elections.

Latest Political Updates : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) offered an invitation for Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to run in the future elections, but she turned it down, stating that she “doesn’t have the kind of money” to run in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Sitharaman revealed that she was offered the choice to run for office from Andhra Pradesh or Tamil Nadu by BJP President JP Nadda, but she turned down the invitation, claiming that she lacked the necessary cash.

The finance minister remarked, “After thinking over a week or ten days, I just went back to say… maybe not,” during his speech at the Times Now Summit 2024. That type of money is not mine to compete with.
“Whether it’s Tamil Nadu or Andhra Pradesh, I also have an issue. It will also depend on a number of other winnability factors that they employ.Which religion are you from—this one or another one? Are you a resident of this? I answered, ‘No, I don’t think I can do it,'” she continued.

“I am really appreciative that they agreed with my viewpoint…Therefore, I’m not contesting,” she said. She said that the Consolidated Fund of India did not belong to her when questioned why not even the nation’s finance minister had enough money to contest the Lok Sabha elections.
She stated, “My salary, my earnings, my savings are mine and not the Consolidated Fund of India” .
Sitharaman did, however, state that she will continue to participate in the BJP’s election campaign route. She will be campaigning for several BJP candidates, including Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar, and attending media engagements.

The BJP has fielded several current Rajya Sabha candidates, including Piyush Goyal, Bhupender Yadav, Rajiv Chandrasekhar, Mansukh Mandaviya, and Jyotiraditya Scindia, however Sitharaman will not be running this time.
For the 2019 general elections, the BJP has so far produced seven lists of candidates, with prominent members of the party such as Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, and Narendra Modi on these lists. The last week also saw headlines featuring BJP’s unexpected candidates, including actress Kangana Ranaut and assault survivor Rekha Patra from Sandeshkhali.
